Global Elite Basketball
LEAGUE RULES
These are the official standardized rules of Global Elite Basketball. All players, coaches, and team representatives are expected to know and follow these rules before taking the court.
GAME FORMAT & TIMING
All GEB games are played under a consistent format across every division to ensure fair, competitive, and efficient play.
Team Size
All games are played 5-on-5. A minimum of 4 players must be present and checked in at tip-off. Failure to field at least 4 players will result in a forfeit.
Game Structure
Games consist of two 20-minute halves played on a running clock. The clock stops only in the final 2 minutes of the second half when the score differential is 10 points or fewer.
Ball & Rim Specifications
All GEB games use a regulation men's size 29.5-inch basketball on a standard 10-foot rim. Game balls are provided by the league.
Overtime
In the event of a tie at the end of regulation, a single 2-minute overtime period will be played with a stopped clock. If the game remains tied after overtime, a sudden-death possession will determine the winner.
Timeouts
Each team is granted 2 timeouts per half. Timeouts do not carry over between halves. No additional timeouts are awarded in overtime.
ROSTERS & ELIGIBILITY
GEB enforces strict roster and eligibility standards to maintain competitive integrity across all divisions.
Age Requirement
All players must be at least 18 years of age to participate in any GEB division. No exceptions will be made. Valid photo ID may be requested at any time.
Roster Limits
Individual team rosters are capped at 10 players with a minimum of 7 players required to field a complete team. Players may only be rostered on one team per division per season.
Player Check-In & Waivers
All players must have a signed GEB liability waiver on file before their first game. Players are required to check in at the scorer's table before each game. Unchecked players are ineligible to participate.
EQUIPMENT & UNIFORMS
GEB maintains uniform and equipment standards to ensure player safety and a professional on-court appearance.
Jerseys & Numbers
All players must wear their official GEB league jersey. Jerseys must display a permanent, non-repeating number on the back. Taped, hand-written, or duplicate numbers are not permitted and may result in the player being held out until corrected.
Footwear
Non-marking athletic basketball shoes are required at all times on the court. Open-toed shoes, sandals, boots, or any footwear deemed unsafe by league officials will result in the player being removed from play.
Jewelry & Accessories
No jewelry of any kind is permitted during play. This includes but is not limited to watches, rings, chains, necklaces, earrings, and hard bracelets. Soft medical alert bracelets are the only exception and must be approved by the on-site official.
CONDUCT & FOULS
GEB holds all participants to a high standard of sportsmanship. Violations are taken seriously and enforced consistently by certified officials.
Personal Foul Limit
Each player is allowed 5 personal fouls per game. Upon the 5th foul, the player is disqualified for the remainder of that game. Team foul bonus rules follow NCAA guidelines — the opposing team shoots free throws after the 7th team foul in a half.
Dunking
Dunking is permitted during live game play in all GEB divisions. Dunking or hanging on the rim during warm-ups or outside of live play is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate technical foul.
Full-Court Press
Full-court pressing is permitted at all times. However, if a team establishes a lead of 25 or more points, full-court pressing is prohibited for the leading team. Violation of this rule results in a technical foul and the ball awarded to the opposing team.
Unsportsmanlike Conduct
Unsportsmanlike behavior — including but not limited to fighting, taunting, excessive profanity, threatening language, or disrespect toward officials — will result in an immediate technical foul, ejection, or suspension from the league. GEB reserves the right to permanently ban any player whose conduct is deemed detrimental to the league.
Rules are subject to review and update at the discretion of Global Elite Basketball league administration. All registered players will be notified of any material changes prior to the start of the season.
